My name is Roger Ackroyd a General and Upper GI surgeon based in Sheffield and the lead for the obesity surgery team here at Alliance Surgical. Together we perform a significant proportion of all obesity operations performed in the UK each year.
After extensive training in General and Upper GI surgery both here in Sheffield and in Adelaide, Australia, I have developed and run the obesity surgery practice in South Yorkshire. I currently perform 400-500 obesity operations (approximately 200 NHS and 300 private) per year and in total have performed nearly 2000 such operations including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and complex revisional procedures (both open and laparoscopic).
Typically we would like to see you for an initial consultation, lasting around 30 minutes, where we will ask you lots of questions and go through things in detail, giving you the opportunity to ask anything in return. We will decide together your best course of action and, after considering your options, should you choose to go ahead with surgery we will plan your treatment. |

You will be admitted on the day of your procedure which typically takes between 20 and 60 minutes depending on the nature and complexity of the surgery. If we opt for a gastric band procedure, then this typically takes around 20 minutes to perform and you would normally need to stay in the hospital overnight. A bypass or sleeve typically takes around 40-50 minutes and most patients will choose to stay in hospital for up to 2 nights.
Our main priority is you and providing you with the support you need. We will arrange for you to see a specialist dietician, and review you in clinic to check your progress. We aim to provide you with the excellent care you deserve, and give you the opportunity to lead a healthy, active life. |
