My name is Dr Sandeep Cliff and I am a senior NHS Consultant Dermatologist based in Surrey and I head our national Dermatology team.
Moles, cysts and other skin lesions typically occur all over the body. They can be a cause of discomfort or embarrassment. Clearly a changing mole may need further investigation and may well need to refer to a dermatologist for an expert opinion. Benign moles, cysts, skin tags and warts can be removed simply, quickly and effectively in an out-patient setting. I personally perform around 20 such procedures in my NHS practice and about 30 privately on a weekly basis.
Typically, at your consultation we will inspect the skin lesion and discuss with you your treatment plan if appropriate. This may involve freezing off the growth, scraping it off (curette and cautery), shaving it off or if needed cutting it out, though we will discuss together when, where and how you are treated. |
If you choose to have it removed at the time of the consultation the area will be numbed with local anaesthetic, the growth will be removed and may be sent for analysis (normally all moles are sent off) and the area dressed. Information will always be given as to how to look after the treated area afterwards. The entire procedure normally takes around 20-30 minutes and as we use a local anaesthetic, no recovery time is required for this procedure and you will be able to walk out of the consulting room immediately afterwards.
Our priority will always be you, the patient. It is important that all your questions are answered and before any treatment is undertaken you feel completely comfortable. We aim to provide you with the most suitable treatment for your condition which will be delivered by highly trained professionals at convenient locations and at the best fixed price because you are coming direct to the clinician. |
